Why concept cars are rarely mass produced

Concept cars are a way for automobile makers to showcase their design and manufacturing ability. Automobile manufacturers are constantly making new models to test what consumers will want and what they don’t want. They are meant to be conceptual in nature and are meant to show what will be coming out in the future.

Concept cars usually do not go into full scale production for many reasons. Typically the designs are not very practical for every day consumers to drive. A lot of concept cars are manufactured using materials that are non-traditional and very expensive so producing the car on a large scale is just not feasible.

When concept cars are unveiled at worldwide auto shows they are admired for their breath-taking designs and sleek looks. They are made with all the necessary components in order to drive the car but actually operating and driving the car is usually not feasible either.
So, why are they important?

Without concept cars we would not know what to expect in the future. Almost all new car models start out as concept models before they are mass produced and mass marketed to consumers. Automobile makers want to gauge how viable a concept car is by the reaction they receive from consumers. If the car is not feasible to produce, and consumers aren’t willing to pay for it, then the concept car is scrapped and a new quest begins.
